About Me

Music has always been a big part of my life, growing up listening to (and later playing with) my parents’ ceilidh band and studying classical violin at school and the RNCM Junior School. It is playing with other people, in orchestras and quartets, folk sessions and bands that I most enjoy.

I have performed in concerts and festivals around the UK and Europe with the band 422 and with Alistair Anderson.

My teaching career began running workshops for Folkworks and in festivals such as Whitby Folk Week and Shrewsbury Folk Festival. I have very much enjoyed running evening classes for adults for Folksworks, The Sage Gateshead and Pheonix Folk over the years. I have worked with pupils at home ranging from five years old to over eighty for twenty years. Since 2008 I have worked in schools for the Northumberland County Council Music Service, now Music Partnership North, Northumberland.

I also enjoy playing the piano, English concertina and the Northumbrian pipes.
